Christian was 'Baled' out in T4

For those of you who haven't gotten around to seeing 'Terminator: Salvation' as of yet, you should, because you won't be disappointed at all. Contrary to the critics, as shrewd as they think they are, aside from the performance of Christian Bale I think a majority of them got it wrong in this one. Firstly, I've always been a huge fan of the Terminator series... I grew up watching it as a kid. Schwarzenegger was my favourite action hero, and hell, a digital image of the man even made a stunning appearance in this visually amazing action thriller. As usual, John Connor is the subject of the plot. Set in a post-apocalyptic America in the year 2018, Connor has managed to conjure up a military resistance against the machines of Skynet. But there are two-sides to the story in this one... Part of the plot follows ex-con Marcus Wright, who was assigned to deathrow following his crimes pre-judgment day. When given the death sentence, Marcus donated his body for scientific experimentation which subsequently had the result of Skynet turning the innards of his body into that of a machine. He awakens into the post-apocalyptic wasteland in classic terminator fashion, stark naked and alone. After stealing some clothes off of a fallen resistance soldier, he begins his journey to unearth the purpose of his awakening. In the meantime, Connor (Bale) continues fighting the war, trying to unravel the motives of Skynet with the help of his long-lost mothers tape recordings.Although initially against each other when they face, Connor and Wright link up to infiltrate Skynet in order to save Rhys, Connor's father from the future, because if Rhys is killed then Connor will cease to exist in the future. As a machine, Wright helps Connor infiltrate the Skynet fortress, but low and behold a slightly predictable twist in the plot reveals that Skynet set up Wright as a Lure for Connor.

Long-story short, the story reaches its climax when Bale faces his old friend turned-nemesis, that being the infamous T800 that helped him against his past assissins (the 'Arnie bot'). Faced with certain death, he is saved by Wright who somehow manages to destroy the machine assassin. Connor is impaled by the machine in the process, suffering a pierced heart. In the end, Wright (who is still part human) donates his human heart to Connor to save him from death. I honestly don't know how Connor didn't die on the way back to base after being impaled through the chest but I guess that's a different topic of discussion.

Overall, the movie was a little bit predictable and a little scattered, but definitely worth the watch for any die-hard Terminator fan. I'd give it a 7 out of 10, unlike the critics who seem to be aiming a little lower. Is it just me though, or does Christian Bale have a lucky habit of being bailed out of bad performances by ridiculously good actors? If it wasn't for Sam Worthington (Marcus Wright), this movie might not have been as great. I guess it's a lot like 'The Dark Knight', where Bale sucked ridiculously hard only to be bailed out by the award-winning perfomance of Heath Ledger as the joker. Also, Bale really has to stop with the whole 'tough-guy' whisper thing - it drives me nuts, SPEAK NORMALLY. Anyway, for all of those who haven't seen this movie yet I hope you enjoy it as much as I did (aside from Bale).

Saturdays and Star Trek fever

It's 11am on a Saturday morning and it's beautiful weather outside. I really don't know how this is relevant at all to the topic but I thought I might just share that. I really want to see this new Star Trek movie, and I have no idea why. Star Trek is one of those things I always turned a blind eye to when I was a kid, maybe because I was too young to appreciate a decent Sci-Fi adventure? HA.

Nowadays, if you sell me anything with space and explosions I'm there. Which reminds me, has anybody seen the trailer for the new Terminator movie? It looks INSANE, and they couldn't have picked a better soundtrack to go with the visuals. The only thing I'm a little bit skeptical of though is Christian Bale.... I mean, I just can't take the guy seriously on screen when he has that god awful lisp. You know what I'm talking about, right? The same lisp he had in "The Dark Knight" would've totally ruined the film for me had it have not been redeemed by my awe at how intense Heath Ledger's acting was.

There are some good movies coming out, and it's actually got me pretty excited because in 2008 there was a drought of good film -- with a few exceptions, of course. I saw "Defiance" last night by the way, and that's something I'd definitely recommend watching, even if you aren't a fan of Daniel Craig.

Anyway Star Trek 2009 FTW.
